Stamford rugby festival…sunshine and a lengthy queue to the ice-cream van

The Stamford festival provided a morning of glorious sunshine and a top notch effort from the Under 7 teams. Kettering were able to play in this tournament with two teams, Kettering A and Kettering B. Both teams were in separate pools, playing three different teams each.

Kettering A kicked off the tournament with a close game against Nottingham Corsairs. Kettering got into the tournament early and played well, the defence was good, ensuring this was a tight low scoring game. This got Kettering off to a really positive start, a fantastic initial game.

The second game was against a Stamford. However, I missed this game due to game scheduling, but I’ve been told it was a good game!

Kettering As final pool game was against Deepings, again another close game. There were good scores created by both teams. Kettering’s defence made this tight game and their attack play saw some excellent tries.

Kettering B started their tournament against Sleaford. This game would have been closer albeit for a particularly speedy Sleaford Racing Snake. This game prompted quote of the day from a Kettering parent/supporter, ‘That Sleaford quick lad scored a lot’. Very good effort from the Blues, they deserved to take away more from this game, all players tried super hard and worked together across both first and second half.

Kettering B then played against Peterborough Lions. This was, yet again, another close game. Never mind Peterborough Lions, Kettering defended like Lions, there was some excellent tagging on display. Peterborough scored through very good support play which overcame the Kettering defence. Kettering responded with good tries utilising the full width of the pitch. Kettering dipped out of luck late in the game through a couple of miss passes that led to turn-over ball which ultimately led to Peterborough tries.

Kettering B’s final pool game was against Stamford Bears. This game provided more excellent tagging from Kettering. Kettering were thwarted on this occasion by the side line, which denied them a couple of tries on at least two occasions. This led to turn-overs that again led to tries against the Blues.

Another tournament, another sunny day, another great effort from all the players. Roll on the Easter Tour….
