Kettering vs Northampton Casuals

The usual high turn out of players resulted in Kettering fielding three teams against a travelling Northampton Casuals this week. On a cold but clear morning the Under 7s played and trained on the all weather Astroturf pitch, this prompted quote of the day from manager (and mum) Rachel, ‘As an aside the Mum's were thrilled to have relatively clean kit after playing on the astroturf :-)’.

Casuals travelled with 9 players (and a good number of supporters) so each Kettering team played with 9 against 9. This caused some pile ups on the try line which made it difficult for the referee to award tries at times but both clubs came away with smiles.

Each of the three games were very close contests. Casuals won the first game 6-4, but Kettering came back to draw the second game 5-5. The continuity Casuals built by playing back to back games saw them sneak a win in the final game 5-4.

Whilst the Casuals games were being played the other Kettering players continued to work on their skills. The coaching team worked with the players on their ‘ABC’ (core skills) and facilitated inter-team games. This ensured all players were busy playing games or improving their skill base and of course enjoying themselves. All players put in 100% and received a well deserved cheer from the coaches at the end of the morning session….and the obligatory match day hotdog!
