Kettering's playing squad with its strength in depth was able to play multiple teams in two locations. Kettering Blue and Green teams played in a Festival at Stamford and Kettering Orange teams played in a three-way match at South Leicester and Vipers.
The Stamford sun shone for the whole morning allowing players and spectators to revel in the sunshine.
The two teams that played at Stamford represented their club and town in a manner that was exemplary leaving parents, friends, coaches and manager bursting with pride.
Kettering Green team played against teams from Nottingham Moderns, Olney, Spalding and Sleaford. Their games were extremely close and they battled hard in every game. They showed their fighting spirit until the final whistle was blown in each and every game. The difference in the score lines was often down to a single turn-over.
Both teams seemed to be powered by Duracell (but more likely Haribo) with super charged displays performing well in both defence and attack.
Kettering Blue team played against teams from Kesteven, Peterborough, Olney and Deeping. Attacking opportunities were taken and executed expertly. With ball in hand the team passed well, identified gaps and exploited them, ran with pace and from depth end communicated with each other.
If the attacking was excellent then the defence was even better and was often the difference between the opposing teams. Kettering, on multiple occasions caused turn-overs by completing 7 tags in a row, wining back the ball to continue their attack.
At the end of the Festival all Kettering players received a medal for their efforts and more importantly a better than average Hot-Dog…with a Lincolnshire sausage no less!
Thank you to all players, coaches, parents and supporters for a magnificent morning of entertaining and exciting rugby.
