Having been well beaten at Stamford back in October the Under 9s were keen to set the record straight and show how well they have developed during the course of the season. Kettering had an excellent turnout of 23 players with a strong representation of 15 players travelling to represent Stamford.
First up were Kettering 'Whites' who, although starting slowly, gained momentum and competed strongly in a tough match where neither side was able to push home their phases of advantage with the score at full time remaining at 0-0.
The 'Blues' then took on Stamford and, although the game was again extremely hard fought, they were able to make their territorial domination pay with two tries by Eli Cox and Charlie Fluester which allowed them to run out 2-0 winners.
The final game on the main pitch was a much more one sided affair with Kettering camped in the Stamford half for the vast majority of the game. However full commitment in defence by Stamford meant Kettering were able to convert the pressure and cross the line just once ( again through Eli Cox ) with the final score being 1-0.
On the side pitch, the remainder of the Stamford squad were supplemented by some Kettering players to form a Barabrian team which took on the rest of Kettering for an really entertaining game which finished 2-2 and in which both George Boon and Jay Hammond scored their first competitive tries.
A really enjoyable morning in glorious conditions and well done to all the boys, and in particular to those relatively newer players who are really starting to step up and have an influence on the game.
