Our last outing as a mini Rugby team began on a bitterly cold & wet morning at the Stamford Festival. As usual Stamford had organised a slick operation. We had five games at 12 minutes each with no half time break.
We had one team entered and it was decided to take every player that was available to finish the season off. This obviously throws up a lot of challenges. We had a lot of substitutes but every effort was made to give everyone as much game time as possible whilst retaining some shape to the team on the field.
First up we faced Peterborough, they have improved quite a lot over the recent years & gave us a tough start. What we gave up in physical size we made up with flair and skill. A good win under our belts.
Our next team Kesteven were well drilled with a very evenly matched outfit to us. An interception try the only difference between us.
After an hours break came Boston, our first game playing down hill. We had talked to the team about fast ball through soft hands, ball retention and taking our game to them. It seemed to work & the boys ran in a string of unanswered tries.
Our penultimate game was against Stamford, a great game to watch with some fantastic skills from both sides on display. It was a close match but we got the upper hand with great off loading & ball handling.
Our final match against Spalding was a difficult one. We drew first blood but with the constant change of personnel as we desperately tried to play every player we lost shape & focus. We conceded two tries, one at the very end of play.
We saw some fantastic skills out there today. The team have really grown and i can honesty say that we have seen a huge progression in every player this season. The team have really gelled and are looking like a formidable bunch of players as we move into junior rugby.
We want to thank the parents for their support & patience over the season ( especially today). We have a difficult line to tread, we are fortunate to have a lot of players & we want them all to play. We really hope that all the players have enjoyed the season as much as we have. We look forward to seeing you all at presentation day and in the new season as junior rugby players.
