We had another great turnout for a hastily organised mini festival by Oakham. Their superb facilities matched their hospitality. We faced Stamford, Oakham & North Walsham on tour.
Our first opposition was Stamford, always a great side with with a similar amount of players & skills as us. Stamford started strong but the momentum the team have built up over the last few weeks continued. We dominated up front & showed superb skill & imagination at the back. I am sure the happiest KRFC player was Milo. He faced some of school mates & gave a great performance.
Next was Oakham. Oakham were a bit short of players & Austin stepped up to help them out. It's not ideal playing for another side but it does help to keep the matches going & Austin got a lot of game time. Well done Austin! Although short of numbers Oakham did have some very capable players. They made some good breaks through our line. Our strength was our overall team play. The boys invention in attack was also on display with the chip over the top becoming a favorite. It also had my favourite play of the day. Ben's tackle & ruck to secure the ball was tremendous.
Last up was North Walsham, they'd had a tough morning picking up a few injuries along the way but it didn't stop them throwing everything at us. Both sides were tiring at this point & handling errors started to creep in on both sides. Lots of broken play made for a slow game but once again the boys faced up and finished on a high.
What a team of players we have. The boys who carry strong & tackle hard, the fast runners, the invention at the back. What's not to love. To be able to switch everyone in & out of the side without having too much of a detrimental effect is real progress. Our never say die attitude in defence is awesome. Defending on our own line to stop tries & turn the ball over, what's not to like. Their offloading game is fantastic.
I absolutely love how they keep trying new plays in attack, we will continue to encourage & support their creativity. The boys are playing with real confidence. Some great rugby today, keep it up!
