U14s finish league action on a high

Paul Church28 Feb 2016 - 13:53

11 unanswered tries for the Blues

On what promised to be a bright and warm morning but ended up being a lot colder than most had dressed for, Kettering hosted Old Scouts in the final league game of the season.

The pitch now resembled a pitch rather than a muddy field and the Blues were hoping for a good result to finish their league action on a high.

Initial exchanges of the two sides showed Scouts to be not as quite as weak as perhaps their league results had shown. You could not fault their commitment in the tackle or their strength in the scrum. The Blues threatened a number of times with both James Smith and Elliot Egham being tackled into touch with only 2-3 yards to go.

Kettering's momentum however was growing and Scouts found themselves pinned in their own half. With so much possession it was only a matter of time before the Blues found their first score with a strong run down the touchline by Lucas which was then picked up by Aaron Clifford for his first score of the season.

The Blues now in their stride continued to expose Scouts out wide and soon started to rack up the points with well taken tries by Lucus Bonsu, Elliott Egham, Adam Mclean, James Smith, Tommy Sims and a brace from Will Watters.

With such a command of the game the Blues were able to start emptying the bench. New players Tobias and Will Harvey showed their strength and pace and Theo again used his speed outwide to great effect to run in 2 tries to take the final score to Kettering 61-0.
Despite the one sided final score, Old Scouts didn't let their heads drop and played till the end as a team and should be applauded for doing so.

Olney beat Bedford in the other top of the table league game, so we end up 3rd in the league with Bedford coming top on points difference and Olney second. A small consolation is we have the league's best points difference and also conceded the least points. Had we not stumbled to a underperforming draw with Huntingdon in the mud and rain we'd have won the league.

A deserved top 3 finish in the toughest league in the East Midlands. Well done to all who have played their part, players, coaches and parents.
