Hello All,
Just a brief roundup of the season ahead or tomorrows end of season presentation. I'll start with a few stats. We have 33 players signed up to the team. I think 12 started at under 6/7's. We have continued to maintain very large numbers in the squad which is great to see. We played 16 fixtures ( including DPP festival). You scored 591 points with 34 points from conversions. 20 players out of the 33 scored tries.
All our games home or away were well supported, we would have up to 29 players at away games & although tour didn't happen we had probably the largest age group due to attend.
Looking at the stats we see a really healthy sized squad with everyone making a contribution & most of you getting an opportunity to score points for the team.
We saw a few changes this year with conversions coming into play. The guys practiced their kicking & that really paid off in the games. We did have a few games on the astro with no posts so the conversion rates could have been even higher. The introduction of flankers gave players the opportunity to try a new position. With the full sized scrum working really well this season we saw some great results be that winning against the head or the pick & go off the back. Some great dominance there with some of the main leaders on pitch involved in it. The forwards worked really well this season often creating the space on the pitch for the backs to exploit.
The backs continued to play exciting & skilful rugby. They trained specific plays & implemented these when & where appropriate. Some really intelligent rugby from these boys.
When i look back on the season i see vast improvements in the way the boys train & play. We might not be the biggest in physical size as some of the teams out there but no one can live with the skill & variation in play that you boys put into a game.
We have some great leaders out there as well, guys who can take control of a game & a team and motivate them all the way through. Max, Clarke, Charlie, Ben & Freddie to name just a few who can bring the boys together.
We've really enjoyed seeing boys progress this season as well. Joe has made vast improvements working alongside Shea in the second row. Ioan & Austin have made big improvements on their tackling & general confidence on the pitch. These boys have really stuck with it & their progression over the season has been great to see. It's been great to see Cyrus come out of his shell on the pitch & he has made great strides this season as has Luca coming in as a novice & learning pretty fast on the job since he's been with us. Ewan has made some great improvements as well. Our latest recruits Raul & Tom Herbert bringing some fun to training sessions but also getting down to work in the games.
Someone we all agreed we had to mention is Bryce. He has worked so hard on his fitness, stamina & technique. He has a great knowledge of the game & great hands on the ball. We have all been really impressed by his progression.
We suffered only a few injuries this season. Will L/W coped a few & put his body on the line countless times for the team. We lost Rory early on to a bad shoulder injury but we look forward to seeing him back in the new season.
The season didn't end as anyone wanted it to but we have to accept that & move on, there have been lows like the wet pants left in changing rooms or the overpowering Lynx effect in huddles. Overall other than the abrupt end it's been an awesome season with a great squad & parents. We've loved seeing the boys evolve & we look forward to seeing you in the new season.
I can't want to see the first KRFC SQUEEEEEZE!
