We were back on the road again & this time to Milton Keynes. We were able to take everyone available which this week added up to 29. A bit of a challenge for a 15 man game. We had a good long warm up & run through & then onto the game 2 X 25 mins & heres how it played out.
First half:
KRFC kick off, we secure the ball & Oran gets under the posts to score, Freddie drop kicks the conversion, a good positive start. We loose possession in the middle of the pitch, MK string a couple of phases together but we regain possession, Freddie makes a darting run out wide and then back under the posts to score, Freddie drop kicks the conversion. KRFC on the attack again, the boys keeping the ball alive really well & the offloading is a thing of beauty, Ben, Joe & Oran all playing the offloading game really well. MK defending well but the pressure from the boys is really working. Charlie making some great line breaks which is making MK retreat. Max & Sam working hard to secure the ball at the breakdowns.Some more phases by the boys with brilliant offloads & ball to Ben who goes over for the try, no conversion. Sustained pressure from the boys again, we are playing with great tempo & not letting MK catch their breath, Oran over in the corner for a try, a tricky kick for Ioan but he converts. Superb kick. MK starting to apply pressure now, we loose the ball in our own half & MK go in the corner for a try, no conversion. Thats the end of the first half.
Second Half:
MK working hard up the pitch & are camped out in our half. They make a break & it's a try to them, conversion, a really tough kick, great skills.
( Note: Freddie knocks my phone out my hand & i will never forget this for the rest of my life, well at least not until after tour). MK really applying the pressure & cut through our defence to score, try converted. KRFC regroup & start to play again. Freddie makes a break ball to Sam who punches it up well & makes a break with Dan in support, lovely offload to Dan who goes over for a try. A really well worked try, no conversion. KRFC are playing with real intensity now, some big tackles & great jackling of the ball. More pressure & the forwards are sucking in the MK defence, ball out to Ben who darts through to score, no conversion & thats time here at Bowland Drive.
A good mornings rugby at Mk today, it's challenging to get everyone on the pitch & we just about made it work today. It was good to see Austin have a strong morning on the wing, Bryce put in a good 30 min shift. Freddie kicked well today, he exitted when we needed to & kicked well for space. Some good work from the forwards & our scrum was solid. Thanks to the guys who stood in as flanker for MK as their guy was injured in the warm up.
