Our first fixture of 2020 took us on the road to Deeping Rugby club to face a combined Bourne & Deepings team. Two 25 mins here's how it played out:
First Half:
Deeping kick off & we attack, a forward pass forces a scrum in deepings half. We win the ball back & Milo over for a try, no conversion. Kettering attack again from the restart, ball goes loose but good fly hacking from Joe & Ben, unfortunately the balls goes over the dead ball line, scrum 5. Charlie at 8 off the back of the scrum, pass to Milo & out to Ben who scores, no conversion. Ball goes forward in our half, really strong scrum from Kettering to secure the ball, ball to Freddie, inside ball to Ben who motors up the pitch, off load to Freddie to score. Great work by the forwards & a good finish from the backs, Fraser converts. Will L-W catches the re-start & sprints down the wing to score, Fraser converts. Deeping re-start but the ball goes to Ben who cuts his way through the defence, offload to Cyrus who scores, Fraser converts. The Kettering forwards are now putting the phases together, some great work from the 10m to the try line, Deepings battling hard & hold us up over the line, scrum 5. Knock on from the scrum & now a Kettering Scrum, Thomas H at 9 clean ball out to Christian who scores, Fraser converts. End of first half
Second Half:
Kettering loan 4 players to Deepings to assist with substitutions, Deepings on the attack but Freddie snatches the ball from nowhere & goes under the posts, outrageous skills, Freddie converts. Deepings attacking more now but Joe gets hold of the ball & opens his legs up and motors over the line to score, no conversion. Freddie with a cross field kick, Deepings tackle and ruck but great counter ruck from Kettering, ball to Joe who goes over for a try, no conversion. Deepings attack now with some help from the KRFC contingent, some good passing & they score, no conversion. Kettering attack again & Cyrus over for a try, no conversion. Some good defensive work from Ioan now, a good tackle & follows with another tackle & ruck on the supporting player. Deeping scrum in Kettering half, good ball off the back & they score, Freddie D-L ( Deepings) drop kicks the conversion from a tight angle, superb skills.Kettering running the ball out from their own half, Fraser out to Gethin who makes a break, good tackle from Deeping to stop him. Deepings attacking again but Kettering hold them up over the line, scrum 5, great defence from the boys. Deepings win the scrum, ball out & they are over for the try, Freddie D-L drop kicks the conversion & thats time here at Spalding Road.

It was really good to see Fraser & Will L-W back from injury, we are just missing Rory now who may not be back with us until the end of the season. We wish him a speedy recovery. A fantastic turnout from the squad today, 27 players making the hour long journey in January. Thank you parents for your continued support. Huge thanks to Tristan for reffing again today.
