A solid performance

A big turnout today for this fixture, perfect conditions for a good match. R&H were missing some players & could only field 14. We had already agreed to land a player & subs if required. Two 30 mins & heres how it played out.
First Half:
Leo Starts for R & H. Kettering start with great intent & pressure well. Good moves up the field & good ball through hands. Some good speed to the breakdowns. Kettering scrum on the 5m, Charlie playing 8 picks off the back of the scrum & scores, no conversion. Kettering loose the ball forward & it's scrum, Kettering win against the head, Charlie off the back of the scrum again making loads of metres again. Kettering scum on their 5m, Alex out to Ioan on wing & it's a try, no conversion. Again Kettering make good ground from the re-start. We force another error on their 5m, scrum down, ball out to Oran & he's over for the try, Ioan converts. Kettering catch the re-start & good ball through hands, ball to Charlie & he runs through to score under the posts, Ioan converts. A big change of personal now, immediately we start giving away penalties. R & H not really getting out of their own half. Some good ball through hands, out to Milo on the wing & he scores, Fraser converts. Ball goes loose & Shea with some great football skills making about 30m of ground, R & H in possession now but Kettering regain possession & a great run down the wing with some lovely offloads, from Oran & Rory. R & H disrupting the ball in the tackles & making Kettering work hard now. Some good forwards play, ball to Shea who goes under the posts to score, Fraser converts. End of the first half
Second Half:
Leo back with Kettering & Freddie on for R & H. Freddie catches the re-start & looks to be in for a score, he chips it through but we dob down, 5m scrum. R & H off the back of the scrum & under the posts to score, R & H convert. Kettering kick the ball away from the re-start, R & H catch & run through our line with numerous missed tackles to score, R & H convert. R & H kick & chase and another good score from them, no conversion. Kettering on the attack & we have a scum on there 10m, Archie out to Charlie & he scores, no conversion. Kettering attack again, Toby makes a great break, loads of hand offs & a really dominant run & he scores, Fraser converts. Theres a maul in our half & Max has been sent off & will play no further part in the game. Kettering down to 14 men. R & H have a scrum in our half, good pick off the back by there 8, he's tackled down well but off loads, but we drag the supporting player off the pitch for a line out. Great defensive work. R & H on the attack again & they score, no conversion. Freddie on the attack now & scores for Rushden & they convert. Freddie off & Oran on in his place. Oran catches the restart, runs through our defence & scores for R & H under the posts, R & H Convert. That's time here at Waverley Road.
A good solid start to the game today, we saw a bit of White line fever from the lads once the tries came. That's a little bit disappointing as we want to use the these games to build good team work & get the ball through the hands. The pack worked very well today & we were really pleased with their dominance in the scrum & at the break down. Lots of tries by the forwards this week. We did see some good backs moves in use & this created space. Our defence was mostly solid but i did see some poor attempts at tackling ( one to work on again). The changes in personal to try to make it a more even contest obviously disrupted the side at times but to be a great team you have to deal with disruption. All in all a good solid performance.
Tries: Charlie 3, Ioan 1, Oran 1, Milo 1, Shea 1 & Toby 1. Conv: Ioan 2, Fraser 3
Tries by KRFC for R & H: Freddie 1 & Oran 1
