We had nearly the full squad turn up for this home fixture and a good turnout from Spalding, plenty of players. 2 x 30mins & here’s how it played out:
First Half:
The game starts & for the first few minutes there is nothing between the sides. It’s looking like two fairly evenly matched teams trying to break through each other. Kettering pressuring well, we string a few phases together. The forwards trying to suck in the opposition defence, it’s paying off & the ball goes out wide & Ben is over for the try, no conversion. The forwards working hard again, Charlie, Alfie & Will H picking off the back of the break downs. That is working well. We are having a few handling errors but that should settle down as the game progresses. The forwards working hard again & few more phases of play & Will L/W is over under the posts, great work from him today, Fraser converts. Kettering continue to pressure Spalding, some fast defence & hard work at the break down. Spalding bring on a huge lad. Kettering not looking phased by this & continue to pressure Spalding. The boys continue to work up the pitch & Bens over for a try, no conversion. Will L/W making a good break, beautiful offload to max. The offloading game is really working today. Spalding on the attack now, we are tackling too high & it’s a penalty which Spalding kick for the posts & score. End of the first half.
Second Half:
Tom R catches the re-start & motors his way up the pitch, good off load to Ben & we are on the attack again. More phases of play, Kettering lineout, ball out quick & Ben with a cross field kick, Oran catches under pressure, Oran then passes it back down the line & Charlie crashes over for the try, Fraser converts. A real team try there. Spalding respond well, ball out to the big fella & he’s torn it up the wing, the boys stop him eventually & it’s a knock on. The big guy picks off the back of the scrum & he scores, no conversion. Kettering kick the ball away & Spaldings big guy gets it & runs in another try, Spalding convert. Kettering attack again, working up the pitch, we are stopped on line but it’s a Kettering penalty, tap & go, ball down the line & Rory is over for the try, no conversion. Spalding attack now & create a good overlap & they score, try converted. Kettering, scrum on our own 5m, ball out to Ben & he races down the field, out to Freddie who’s tackled, we recycle well & Freddie goes over the line for a try, no conversion.
That’s time here at Waverley Road. We had a big squad today but everyone worked hard & put in a shift, some great team work on show. Well done boys.
