KRFC U14’s V Lutterworth

With a relatively short build up to our first game in under 14’s we were unsure how the team would perform. Three / four training sessions & lots of new laws have given us all some challenges. What we have seen in training has been encouraging, the boys have retained most of the previous years skills so we have progressed fairly quickly. First match Lutterworth, always a great fixture, two evenly matched squads. Lutterworth brought 28 players and for once we were outnumbered. Here’s how it played out:
Two halves of 30 mins:
First Half:
First 5 minutes and as expected nothing between the teams. Lutterworth make a break but the winger is dragged into touch and it’s our first ever lineout. Ball passed out to Charlie from the lineout who crashes it up field, great off load to Will H who crashes it up again. Off load to Oran who sees the two v one on the wing and runs it in to score, no conversion. Kettering kick off & Lutterworth dot the ball down in touch, 22 kick which is caught by Alex, pass to Fraser who passes it out to Freddie who creates lots of space , a 4 v1 is created & Toby runs in the try, no conversion. Lots of pressure from Lutterworth now, blues defending very well forcing a knock on & scrum on our 5 metre line. Kettering clear their lines. Change of personnel now, Luca on the wing with good support play for Christian, Luca with a good run now but a great tackle from Lutterworth. Good play from Luca. Kettering working hard up the pitch, lots of breakdown & great rucking by the boys. The forwards are really working hard & making it very difficult for Lutterworth to get any rhythm to their game. Charlie with a crash ball & he’s over the line for a try, Freddie converts. Kettering continue to apply pressure, Joe charging a ball down & Alfie pressuring the catching player, superb stuff. Lutterworth not giving in & make a great break down the wing & run in a try under the posts, Lutterworth convert. Oran gains possession in his own half, steps and turns on the gas for a superb individual try under the posts, Freddie converts. Lutterworth come straight back from the kick off & create a good overlap to run in a try, no conversion. End of the first half
Second Half:
Kettering penalised for a high tackle, great kick from Lutterworth giving them a lineout on our 5m. Sustained pressure from Lutterworth but Kettering not giving in, our defence is awesome. Unfortunately we give away a penalty on our 5m, tap & go from Lutterworth and they score, Lutterworth convert. Freddie gains possession in his own half, magical footwork bamboozaling Lutterworth and he scores under posts, Fraser converts. Charlie makes a superb break & looks to be in for a try but superb tackling by Lutterworth brings him down on the 5m & scrum to Lutterworth. Kettering win the scrum, Sam picks up from the back & out to Freddie who changes direction, ball out to Christian who puts the inside ball back to Freddie who scores under the posts. Great try. Freddie converts. Austin putting in some good defensive work today on the wing, something he knew he needed to work so really pleasing to see. Lutterworth on the attack, Sam tackles & is straight in for the jackal, a try stopped for certain, ball into touch & Kettering lineout. Kettering on the attack & another scrum. Lutterworth have been quite dominant all day but Kettering win, Archie gets the ball out under pressure to Freddie with a superbly weighted chip over the top, Oran runs onto it to score. Fantastic skills all round.
That’s time here at Waverley road, a great first match. The boys worked really hard today, we couldn’t praise them highly enough.
