After the League game, next up was the Kettering and Towcester development boys. Fresh legs but the same mud. With lots of new boys running out for the first time for a full game, enthusiasm was high.

Both teams appeared at first to have the equal of one another, the Blues were supporting each other well, the scrum appeared steady and the backs got the ball moving well. Towcester however has some speedy players lurking in their backs who eventually capitalised on the Blues ability to hold their shape defensively to run in 2 unconverted tries for an 10-0 lead.

Kettering however showed much determination to take the game back with some powerful play by the forwards in the loose, before unleashing Theo in space down the line. His pace took him clear of the Towcester cover defence but with the try line in sight he was unfortunate to trip and loose the ball forwards.

However it was only a matter of time before the ball again found Theo who rocketed down the touch line to cheers from the Blues parents to open the Kettering score. 10-5.

More solid tackling and competing for the ball at the breakdown was keeping Towcester at bay, whilst the Blues back line showed much promise but just failed to crack the home defence, until a well supported backs attack gave Theo space to run his second try in of the day.
With less than 5 minutes to play a draw would have been a fitting result for Kettering, but as the mud tired legs, Towcester had the extra gas to sneak in 3 late tries to take their tally to 27-10.

The Blues we're unlucky at the end but should take away many positives, players old and new to the game looked keen and eager and played well as a team. A very encouraging performance all round.
