U14s triumph at Syston 7s

Blues finish the season on a high!

One last outing for the Blues at the always popular and well run Syston 7s. Confidence was high but could the Blues emulate their previous Kettering 7s performance, and go for the double, against a number of teams we've never played against in league format?Top of the league at the end would take the glory.

We faced Market Bosworth first who had a huge and mobile number 10, but we came out fired up and were 15-0 up before Bosworth had a chance to unleash their monster who did some points damage bringing the score back to 15-10. The Blues however rallied and shut out the opposition to win 24-10.

Syston A looked to be a real challenge and scored from the kick off with a powerful run along the touchline. Again the Blues kept composed and came back to win 26-12.

A strong start against unbeaten Ashby had us 17-5 up at half time but then the wobble and missed tackles came. Ashby made it 17-12 and then with time running out managed to just skip through the Blues defence to take the win 17-19. Had the Blues let it slip away? Ashby still had to face Syston who by that stage had run up a huge points difference against everyone bar Kettering.

However Coalville stepped up against their rival neighbours Ashby and put in a truly dogged performance. Camped on the Ashby line for the entire second half needing a try to secure a victory. Finally it came and they looked like they'd won the tournament, league, cup and the lotto all at once by their celebrations!

Game on again for Kettering but we needed points and a lot of them! The Blues left no prisoners again Syston B running in 9 converted tries to win 63-0.

Ashby then faced Syston A. Syston still had the best points difference by a yard, so Ashby need a win and a big one. They duly responded putting 47 points on Syston A.

So it came down to the last match Kettering v Coalville. We needed to win by 10 points. But Coalville having only lost once could take 2nd place in the league if they beat us. The Blues however saved their best to last in a master class of 7s rugby running in 68 unanswered points to secure the top spot in the league and another trophy for the cabinet.

Well done to all the boys (who all scored on the day). Also a big thanks to the players who came to watch and the parents who put on another feast of a picnic. Final thanks goes to Syston for yet another superbly run tournament. We hope to see you all next year.
