More 3G astro action for the Kettering U14s who hosted Broadstreet for the first time in some unseasonal warm weather, accompanied by a howling gale force wind.
Kettering started the brighter even though their kick-off went dead carried by the wind. A well won scrum on the half way line gave the backs a platform to run at Broadstreet who struggled to contain our pace out wide which saw Lucas cross the line for the Blues opening score. 5-0 Kettering.
Broadstreet however quickly capitalised on some sloppy play by both sides who refused to secure the ball on the floor preferring to try and play football with it, before the visitors flying winger found the ball in hand and sprinted clear to score under the posts. 5-5.
Kettering proceeded to invite Broadstreet to run at them by remaining static in defence as the visitors loaded up their powerful number 8 who punched through the high tackles before eventually being halted by Cale Clements with a perfect tackle.
The Blues eventually composed themselves and got back on the front foot allowing Tommy Sims space to crash through the opposition defence to take the score to Kettering 10-5.
Kettering continued to capitalise on the tail wind and kicked through a number of times to keep Broadstreet in retreat. James Smith on the wing soon found a pass in space and went for corner, just managing to ground the ball as he was hailed over the touch line. Kettering 15-5.
The Blues continued to press home their dominance in the backs, helped by some poor tackling by Broadstreet which allowed Henri Codling to break through their defence and take the score to 20-5 at half time.
Despite the Blues playing into the heavy wind after the turn-around, which hampered long passes and made each line out a lottery, they continued to play the game in Broadstreet's half. Our off-loading game finally returned and we managed to put together a significant number of phases of play which reaped 2 further tries for Tommy Sims and a superb crashing run from Will Watters to take the final score to Kettering 35-5.
Thanks to Broadstreet for making journey and for a committed display to the end. Hopefully we can play again before the end of the season on some grass and without the blowing gale.
