Kettering U14 welcome Oundle for a development fixture on another glorious sunny morning.
After the development boys success the previous week at Men's Own, expectations were high that a similar result could be on the cards.
The Blues again started well with all of the backs playing expansive rugby and using the full width of the pitch to take Kettering well into the Oundle half. Some strong rucking and quick ball, allowed Tommy Sims to cut through the Oundle back line and open the scores with his first try and conversion. Kettering 7-0.
A further try and conversion was soon added with a superb pass inside to Tommy Sims who flew through the gap in the Oundle back line. Kettering 14-0.
The Oundle kick then found Joe Steele i n space, who used is speed and power to stretch the Oundle defence down the touch line to score in the corner. Kettering 19-0.
Oundle however rallied and soon found themselves closing in the Kettering line only for a poor pass and knock on to deny them there opening score. The resulting Kettering scrum tied in the Ounde forwards which gave Joe Steele the space to thunder up the pitch for his second try of the day. Conversion by Tommy Sims. Kettering 26-0.
James Watters having threatened to use his pace on a couple of occasions, took his opportunity well to attack Oundle crashing through their cover tackles for the Blues 5th try of the morning.
Further great lines and superb offloading in the tackle found Marcus Wakefield with only one player to beat. Marcus dived low to ensure score his first try of the season. Kettering 38-0.
In the final move of the game, another switch pass sent Tommy through and into the space behind the Oundle defence with Ollie Roberts in support. A little pop pass back to Ollie 5 yards out sent him under the posts for another first try of the season. Kettering 45-0 Half Time.
After the break Oundle found a new level of determination and competed well both in the scrum and at the break down, however some wayward passing in their backs often let them down when opportunities presented themselves. However all their hard work did bring some rewards with a well taken try in the corner. Kettering 45-5.
Will Watters back from injury showed he was fresh and still fit, picking up from the base of a ruck and taking on the Oundle back line at pace to score his first of 2 tries on the day. Theo Boreham again showed his explosive speed out wide to take the final score of the day for the Blues. Kettering 60-5 Final Score.
A good win for the Kettering boys, but full credit to a spirited Oundle side who kept their heads up, and competed till the final whistle.
TXM Recruit player of the week was awarded to Tommy Sims who ran the Kettering back line on the day and showed both his pace and power whilst running some superb attacking lines.
