So....the KRFC Easter Tour 2015 to Clacton (AKA The Badlands) for the Under 14s and their clubmates. An opportunity for family fun and wholesome sporting entertainment combined with a couple of quiet drinks.....and several very noisy ones.
As a change from the usual match report giving you a blow by blow account I will give you a few choice highlights (The Magnificent Seven) from the game and upload the video to Dropbox. If you want a copy send me your email address and I'll send you a link - robwparkes@gmail.com (Kettering U14 parents only). For those of you unfamiliar with my film making skills please be prepared for a shocking display of missed tries, out of focus shots of trees and commentary that would make Bill McLaren shake his head in shame....#RIPrugbycommentatinglegend
The Magnificent Seven
1. After Friday Fight Night at the campsite it was a relief to escape to the leafy tranquility of a superb Colchester RFC ground and clubhouse. If Carlsberg did clubhouses etc
2. Kick off saw assorted stumbles, fumbles and poor co-ordination from the attendant parents and supporters and the players were no better. It was ten minutes of pure Colchester barracks. The home team deservedly took the lead with a slick move through the backs and a powerful run through to touch down.
3. Some positive words of encouragement for the boys from the touchline (Yes Don your Granny could have done better) and the team finally woke up to play some good running rugby.
4. Stretching away from a spirited Colchester team the boys started to have some fun in the second half with a variety of guest appearances at kicker. Dom Ferreira's effort will live long in the memory as the worst conversion attempt ever....in the World.
5. Colchester refused to surrender easily though and deservedly crossed the line again to show that they had character and skill if not ultimately success on the day. FINAL SCORE COLCHESTER 12 - KETTERING 49.
6. A quick bacon butty report this time from our guest correspondent Mrs Claire Beaverstock who told me she was very impressed by Colchester's "large floury baps although still no sign of HP sauce." Ahem.
7. Thank you to Colchester for your outstanding hospitality and friendly welcome. Proper rugby folk. Magnificent.
And so we set off back to our humble abode for an evening of neon related tomfoolery. What goes on Tour......
Sunday's report to follow as we tune in to see if our heroes in Blue can overcome the unbeaten force of Chelmsford RFC U14s.....
