Long Buckby make the boys in blue toil

Just the highlights this week - I'm off to the rugby!!

After a bright start Kettering led 0-12 after 15 minutes with tries from Hayden and Henry, one being coverted by Henry. However Long Buckby were in a determined mood and made the most of some ineffective Kettering tackling to break up to the Kettering 22. They recycled the ball well before breaking the defensive line from close quarters to register their first try. 5-12.

Kettering were only temporarily dazed and from the kick off Chris gathered well to power his way over for a quick try in reply. 5-17. Still Long Buckby pressed and it was only a penalty against them on the Kettering line that stopped a certain second try. Frustration was building up and the referee had to talk to a player from both sides after a robust physical exchange at the breakdown. There was still time in the half for Kettering to score again - with Henry crossing in the right corner after some powerful running.

HALF TIME - LONG BUCKBY 5 - KETTERING 22

Both teams made changes in the second half to freshen things up and this made for a very close second half. Long Buckby were highly competitive and thwarted many Kettering attacks with some well managed defence and dangerous breaks inspired by their elusive fly half. Eventually Kettering went blind from an attacking scrum and Josh Langley did well to break through tight to the left touchline to score the bonus point try which went unconverted.

FINAL SCORE - LONG BUCKBY 5 - KETTERING 27

So a good win for Kettering - well done lads - but plenty of work still to do to reach the standards our coaching team and players aim for. Full credit to Long Buckby for their combative and well drilled approach which made this a very testing game.

POSITIVES
Much improved scrummaging
Support play in attack
A bright start to the game

EVEN BETTER IF
More communication between players
Accuracy and discipline at the tackle/breakdown
Focus on phases of combined teamwork rather than relying on individual inspiration

And finally the Golden Butty challenge rolled into town with a 5.5 out of 10. Good, if slightly underdone, bacon and rolls that were slightly on the dry side and my bugbear....no HP sauce. Still came back for seconds though.....and Long Buckby take 3rd spot in the Hall of Fame so far.
