Tough lessons learnt in encounter with excellent Old Covs side

A long distance road trip to Coventry on Sunday to meet Old Covs for the very first time. Don King had a souvenir photo taken for posterity by the bus lane camera outside the ground - copies on sale for £30 from www.DonKingFightingFund.com - campaign slogan "Free The Don King One." Please give generously.

In brief:

The clubhouse was excellent - offering haircuts for £6!
The pitch was enormous - and contained 0% mud unlike the recent Somme conditions at Rushden.
The weather was tropical - so Hydro wore his lucky shorts held together by string and perspiration.
The boys were in a generous mood - gifting Old Covs 19 points before they woke up.

It was a performance to learn lessons from as follows:

1. Rugby is a 15 MAN GAME.
2. TACKLING IS NOT OPTIONAL and should not be confused with waving at the opposition.
3. INTENSITY is not a refugee camp in Calais.
4. It's not only Tim Peake who likes SPACE - so do we when we find it at SPEED.
5. CONTESTING THE BREAKDOWN is not about an argument with the AA man.

On the positive side once we switched on we showed that:

1. Our last ditch tackling on the line is outstanding at times #BLUEWALL
2. When we play thinking rugby and stretch the opposition TRIES HAPPEN.
3. It's not the size of the men in the fight it's the size of the fight in the men.
4. We have a GREAT SQUAD.
5. We learn from our defeats.

Thanks to Old Covs for your excellent hospitality - we look forward to playing you next season and good luck with your Easter Tour to Amsterdam. (KRFC Tour Committee please take note!!)

See you all non tour in Hastings on Friday for a couple of quiet drinks. And several very noisy ones! And the rugby too.
