Score Kettering 24 Peterborough 19
Try Scorers Sam Martindale
Harry Luthayi and 2 Cons
Luke Conyard 2
This week saw our first run out of the season against Peterborough. We had a squad of 25 who were all ready, willing and able to play a beefy Peterborough side. Kettering came firing out of the blocks right from the off, we were winning our scrums, rucks and lineouts. Sam Martindale, our new scrum half, made his mark on the game by picking up the ball from the back of the scrum and outwitting the Peterborough side to score a classy try, Harry Luthayi then converted. We then worked very well as a team, shipping the ball wide to create the space. Harry Luthayi was in fine form and sent Peterborough packing with his dancing feet to run in a try from the half way line, he then converted.
Peterborough came back at us and we were caught unawares and they scored a try from it. Luke Conyard took the ball on himself and chipped it over the Peterborough heads to follow up with a try. Our forwards were very demonstrative in the field, getting to the breakdown and rucking really well to win us good ball. Alfie Ayears and Sam Peace were solid on the front row. Josh Beal made some amazing tackles and AJ was on hand to clean up. Half time score Kettering 19 – Peterborough 5.
Second half we made a number of changes as we wanted all 10 subs to play. Peterborough made the most of our lighter scrum and pushed us back a little. The boys dug in well and were determined not to let them get the better of them. Unfortunately Peterborough scored a couple of quick trys and conversions. Luke Conyard did a nice little chip and scored from it. Peterborough still kept trying to put the pressure on, but Kettering were determined to hold on. Final Score Kettering 24 – Peterborough 19.
A great first game of the season, loads to look forward to. Our fitness levels really showed boys – Well Done.
