A fine performance saw KRFC U16s beat Men's Own 17-15.
This was a far cry from the performance that saw Men's Own beat Kettering 47-7 at the start of the season.
Although Men's Own went 7-0 on the 10 minute mark, Kettering kept battling and some fine forward play saw Toby Oxford score in the 24th minute after a well controlled driving maul. This was repeated in the 28th minute when Oxford again took the opportunity to dot down after another good passage of forward play. Unfortunately, the conversions were missed but Kettering still went into the break 10-7 up.
Men's Own scored a penalty in the 11th minute of the 2nd half to level the scores and the Men's Own supporters were feeling much more confident at that point.
However, one of several great runs by Monty Toseland saw him bulldoze through 7 Men's Own players to score and with Chris Gosling adding the conversion, Kettering took a 17-10 lead.
Men's Own hit back with an unconverted try in the 28th minute to make it 17-15 but Kettering held out for a nervy final 7 minutes to win.
Overall, a battling performance in a very tight match and it was good to see one of our long-term injuries - Arthur Jones - making his comeback. Just Tim Hale on the long term injury list.... we hope to see him playing in January.
