Lutterworth U16 v KRGF U16

Following a mix up with our fixtures, management pulled an away game out of the bag at the last minute.
We had 16 players make the trip up the A14 for a great away match on the first team pitch.
First Half:
We start with great intent & apply pressure from the first whistle. Dan making great line breaks & causing their defence some real problems. Knock on, on their 22. Our scrum is strong & we win against the head, Sam picks & goes & powers through their defence & over for a try. Tom Herbert converts. We win a penalty inside our own half, Christian with a fantastic kick to touch, just on their 5m. Line out, driving maul & Clark over the line for a try. No conversion. Lutterworth making some good ground now & work their way up the field for try. Try converted & thats the half
Second Half:
Kettering apply pressure again & hold up Lutterworth over their try line. 50 / 22 kick from Lutterworth, Will L-W catches & offloads to Oran who skips through the defence & scores under the posts. Tom Herbert converts. Lutterworth kick off , Christian with a great kick back. Tye chases hard & hacks it through, Sam in support Dobbs it down over the line for a try. No conversion. A great start to the half with Kettering squeezing the opposition really hard. Lutterworth are fighting hard & have us pinned back on our line. The boys are defending hard but repeated penalties on the line result in a penalty try to Lutterworth. We have a line out in their half, superb set play from the forwards at the line out, they work through the phases up the pitch, ball out to the backs with a loop play putting Tom Reynolds on the outside, Tom turns on the gas & leaves the opposition for dust & scores under the posts. Fantastic forwards & backs combo. Tom Herbert coverts. Tom R on the rampage again kicking the ball through, last kick hits the post unfortunately & it comes to nothing. Electric play though, so positive. We knock on at our 5m & it’s scrum to Lutterworth. The pack win against the head & we exit getting up to the half way line, great work. Lutterworth putting us under pressure, they see some space at the back & kick into it, Tye sprints & dives on the ball. Great defence again.Discipline Starts to wain a little & we loose a player to the bin. Kettering don’t let their heads drop & it’s another whole team play up the pitch ending with Christian going over in the corner for a try. No time for a conversion, too cold and windy apparently. Thats full time.
A real team performance today, with limited changes the boys had to all work hard for each other. The set plays worked really well, particularly the line out & scrum, the training is really starting to pay off. It started with Dan’s line breaks & tackles, Sam’s jackals to turn over the ball, the rest of the forwards dominating the scrum & carried on with Christians great positional kicking, Oran, Tom R & Toby charging up the field, Tye & Tom H running the wings & falling back to support Leo at the back. Good distribution from Alex & Christian as well.
