A tough day for the team today. Scouts came well trained, well drilled & with a plan. They executed that plan extremely well. They had a hunger for the ball that we just couldn't match. We'd had the luxury of time & space in our previous two games but there was very little of those available today. Scouts pressed us hard & we couldn't come up with an answer.
We could say that that we were missing some players & had guys playing out of place but that would just be making excuses. What we can't excuse is not abiding by the core values, teamwork, respect, discipline & sportsmanship. If you have these you get enjoyment. We cannot excuse back chatting the ref, this will not be tolerated & I think Nick made that pretty clear in the debrief.
When we say training is at 7:00pm or the match warm up is at 11:00am then you need to be there at 6:50pm or 10:50am with everything that you need to train & play. Rocking up late & meandering around whilst the opposition is already doing a team run puts us on the back foot before we start. Psychologically they are already dominating us.
It wasn't all negative though. I thought Oran made an excellent captain today, he led from the front & his reading of the game & the messages he gave to the team were spot on. We had a period in the first half when we pressured them & they starting to give away penalties. Unfortunately we couldn't capitalise on this after half time. We could have played better, we can play better than we did today. The key is to turn up focused, stay focused & play hard. It might not seem it but we are not far away from being a very dominant side.
Heads up & we look forward to seeing early at training this week ( Wednesday )
