First game of the new season

With our first game of the season cancelled there was a scramble to find another fixture. Luckily the bods behind the scenes managed to get us a very competitive game against Bugbrooke.
The coaches felt it was vital to get a game as the boys have been training hard & needed to play rugby in real time against an opposition.
We had great numbers attend for our first away game of the season. There was nothing between the sides at half time, it was a good even handed affair with both sides making each other work hard. We looked a bit rusty on the basics but nothing that wasn't to be expected for a first game.
We made a couple of adjustments at half time moving Oran from full back into the centre to pair up with Tom Reynolds. Oran took his opportunity early to score under the posts. The pair made another good break & Tom also stretched to get over the line. Leo moved to full back & made a fantastic line break to get over to score. Leo backed this up with another great run & over the line. Oran went over for his second in the half as well. Christian playing at 10 converting 4 times.
We saw some great work from the forwards today. A very well worked line out, great tackling & some good phase play working in pods. The forwards worked really hard and created the space for the backs to exploit. We saw some great counter rucking & jackaling of the ball with Sam being particularly dominant . Defensively the boys were very strong repeatedly holding up the opposition even at the last play on our own line.
As a coaching group we can see the work ons from todays game. Mainly the basics, catch & pass, communication etc. A bit of tweaking at the scrum. Overall a good first outing that saw the boys come together & work really hard as team. We can see that the mid week training with the colts is paying off, particularly in the forwards. If you are able to make the sessions ( exams, sporting commitments etc permitting) then please do as this is really important if we are to move forward this season.
Lastly a big thank you to Bugbrooke for hosting us at the last minute & providing a superb referee as well.
Thank you parents for your continued support, 20+ players away when we are hearing the numbers drop at other clubs is something we are very proud to have.
