Today saw our first run out of the season. It was an opportunity to give the whole squad good game time. We concentrated on our technical play. The game plan was to always give a good pass, keep the ball wide, offload before contact and ensure that we secured the ball when contacted.
We played three 20 minute games.
First 20 Minutes – Score Kettering 26 Long Buckby 0
Harry Luthayi Scored 3 trys
Luke Conyard Scored 1 try
Ethan Haywood Converted 3 trys
Kettering looked really sharp, we were shipping the ball really well and using our backs to their full potential. There was some great scrimmaging, with our new hooker Andy Mason playing really well. Kettering used some great set pieces which resulted in trys.
Second 20 Minutes – Score Kettering 17 Long Buckby 0
Tom Connolly Scored 2 trys
Luke Conyard Scored 1 try
Ethan Haywood Converted 1 try
Kettering had the opportunity to practice a couple of line outs and looked very comfortable with their take. We were winning our ball and theirs. There were some great individual performances: AJ Mills ran half the pitch to put us on our 22, Ethan Haywood made good ground which resulted in a try. Josh Beal was ferocious in his tackling as was Alfie Ayears. There was great interaction between the forwards and the backs which led to really good positive play.
Third 20 Minutes – Score Kettering 17 Long Buckby 0
Josh Beal Scored 1 try
Luke Conyard Scored 1 try
Harrison Shipp Scored 1 Try
Justin Morris Converted 1 try
There was no let up in the Kettering side, we just kept on doing what we do well – shipping the ball, using the width of the pitch and keeping the ball alive. Justin Morris had a great 20 minutes with some brilliantly timed offloads. Harrison Shipp ran in a good try from the half way line. All round a great team effort.
Well done boys you’re looking in good shape, let’s keep it up for the rest of the season.
