It was the perfect start, everyone had belief and it appeared O.N's were surprised by the intensity Blues brought to the contest. A third penality was awarded 15m in from touch about 30m out. A sweet strike hit the left upright and rebounding back into play. A solarty Ketteirng player chased the kick however O.N's reacted best and put in a great clearing kick which they chased agressively. Blues managed to get to the ball first however the home side hassled and hustled, turned it over and touched down under the posts with a simple conversion. So from potentially 9 nil to Ketts it was 7:6 to O.N's and a serious momentum swing. THe body blow took it's tole on the Blues as well as kicking O.N's into life. The next 20 minutes seen the home side grow in stature, the forwards began to dominate, with good go forward ball the backs came into the game and scored a couple of well worked tries.
Half time wasnt a minute too soon, lets regroup lads, get back in the saddle and believe.
From the restart Blues continued to lack ambition, O.N's scored again and took a 29:6 lead and appeared to have put the game beyound Blues. Having resigned to coming second the blues began to run the ball with committment and purpose in particular Josh Luthayi who made a number of weaving runs from full back maing considerable ground. A decent piece of quick play and slick handling got Blues over the line and pull back 7 points. The blanket spell cast by O.N's was lifted as a few minutes later Blues were over the line yet again for 7 points pulling it back to 29 : 20 with a about 5 minutes left. Was it possible the phoenix would arise from the ashes? Blues continued to press and a great defensive tackle from which O.N's won a penality. A great clearnace kick got them to the Blues 22 and from the line out they got a great drive and scored in the corner.
Game set and match to O.N's. As hard as it is to accept the side that wanted it more on the day were victorious.
