Well Almost!!
A training game 3 x 20mins periods with the sun warming the back of the neck was just the healthy appetiser the doctor ordered in advance of the league semi final next week away to O.N's
(thanks Michael)
Without much ado the game got underway with the blues asserting themselfs from the start. At every opportunity good pressure was applied all across the park which soon saw the Blues take the lead through a well worked backline play scoring in the corner with the difficult conversion being missed on the left.
As to be expected Scouts applied good pressure with one of the props making a telling break, brushing aside a few KRFC players before being brought to ground about 7m from the line and knocking on in the process. Unfortunately the ref missed the knock on and a support player galdly picked up the ball and scored close to the posts ensuring an easy conversion. The first period ended 7 : 5 to Scouts however the lads knew they'd had the upper hand. Positive words of encouragement were exchanged at the break with a few leaders saying all the right things and the lads took to the pitch with a real spring in their step.
Solid play and strong committment was soon rewarded with a well worked try for Blues but were unable to land the conversion. Scouts, try as they may, were unable to break the defensive line and the period ended with Blues leading 10 : 7
So into the last period and again Blues made the better start scoring first to take a 15 : 7 lead into the last 15 mins. A couple of very tough decison went against us during this period which frustrated a number of players and certainly lifted the opposition. They managed to touch down twice in the corner and took the spoils 17 : 15
A tough finish to a good days play with no rub of the green in the last 15 mins. Whilst its easy for me to say lads the next stage of developement is to toughen up mentally! Its often said this game is all about using the top six inches in your head. When the red mist descends clear thought leaves the room and takes with it your abilty to do your best.
As is my mantra lads use yesterdays experience to make you better tomorrow. We continue to play strong rugby and have every chance of making the E.M league final on the 22nd April. Lets keep up the good work through the week.
