Kettering Colts were left wondering how they lost a game they could so easily have won if only they had taken their chances. The visitors went into a two score lead with tries within the first five minutes however, Kettering fought back and after spells of sustained pressure scrum-half Jordan Goldsmith picked the ball from the back of the ruck and darted over to score his third try in two outings.
At 5-10 the game was still well within Kettering’s reach yet despite further periods of pressure the young blues failed to score again in the first half. Graham Wilson, the Colts head coach commented; “in a period of about 10 minutes I counted four clear cut chances that we would normally have converted. We had plenty of pressure but didn’t take our chances.”
The second half started in much the same way as the first with Towcester scoring twice early on before Kettering regained their composure and following a series of drives from the forwards Joe Allen linked with center Tom Connolly who stepped his way cleverly through the Towcester defense line to score a well worked try. Towcester, who had performed well in the backs all afternoon, continued to move the ball wide and scored again to make the final score 10—29.
Tries: Jordan Goldsmith (17 minutes), Tom Connolly (52 minutes)
Higham Flat Roofing Man of the match: Kettering No.9 Jordan Goldsmith
Florescent shirts were awarded to touch-judge Ben Goddard, who managed to get himself tackled by Kettering back-row Hayden McCann during a period when play was close to the touchline and lineout leader Gabriel York who forgot his post-match trousers and seemed to be suggesting that it was his dad’s fault (editor: I suggest that you make a list Gabriel and pack your own kit!).
