With a couple of weeks till the cup semi final v Bedford the next 2 weekends games were all about prep. Unfortunately a number of seniors couldn't make it which opened the door for the U16's to represents the colts.
The game started with Kettering applying solid pressure through the impressive forward pack with 3 U16's rolling there sleeves up and getting stuck in.
Having created a number of chances Blues conspired to knock the ball on as they almost crossed the whitewash twice within the first 10 minutes, mind you the horizontal hailstones weren't helping much to be fair. The next 15 minutes belonged to the visitors who showed real pace out wide on two occasions to skin the blues defence and a strong run through the centre with some weak high tackles allowed a 3rd converted try for Oadby. A converted penalty gave the visitors a 24 point lead with Kettering not yet on the board. Half time couldn't come quick enough to regroup.
A few strong words on tackling technique with an equal dose of encouragement to rediscover the opening 10 minutes performance worked a treat.
Refuelled Blues got of to a good start in the second half and eventually got there reward with a well worked try for Conyard out wide which was quickly followed up with another for Marshall on the opposite side of the pitch. 10 : 24 with 10 minutes to go! could a come back of epic proportions be on the cards? Alas Oadby had other ideas and pressed hard for a period creating the chance to cross the line during the last play of the game. Final score was KRFC 10 Oadby Wiggs 29
A real sterling stella performance from everyone however it must be said the 16's deserve a special mention for the manner in which they conducted themselves on and of the field. going behind by 24 points would have buckled most teams however everyone filled the shirt with pride.
