Colts get of to a good start and earn a home draw for the next round v Syston on 18/19th October

National Cup rugby commenced for the Colts with a 27 : 15 win over Leicester Forest at Waverly Road.
The game was well contested from the outset with both sides looking to get on the front foot and assert some dominance however it was the KRFC pack that won the contest. Scrum time was owned by the Blues with all eight putting in a good shift.
The break down was another area of dominance with Haydn McCann making a proper nuisance of himself as all good open sides should.
The blues got on the board first with full back Harry Brightwell intelligently joining the back line to make the extra numbers and breach the Leicester defence out wide however was unable to add the extra's. Blues continued to apply good pressure and won a penalty which Brightwell duly converted putting the blues in control (at least that's what we thought) however a few missed tackles across the park and a period of ill discipline and the momentum shifted. Forest to there credit seized the moment and ran in two tries to take a 10 : 8 lead at half time.
A few honest words were shared during the interval which had the desired effect as Kett's scored a well worked try within the first 5 minutes. Brightwell again joined the attack at pace and beat a number of defenders to touch down. With there tails up the Blues played some expansive rugby with the back line executing some strong plays coupled with good handling skills. A good break from Joe Allen created space for centre Jack Sims to gather a well timed pass and get the third try which Brightwell converted.
Forest to there credit gave it there all and scored a good try bringing it back to a one score game. The Blues stuck to the task and the final play of the game resulted in another good try for Brightwell who added the cream with an excellent conversion from out wide giving him a 22 points tally for the day and a well deserved man of match award.

Well done to everyone involved, on the whole it was a solid TEAM performance which we can build upon in readiness for Syston in the next round.
