ON’s with the wind at their backs started the stronger of the sides and despite some strong defence the Northampton side crossed the Kettering line twice in quick succession to give them a 10 point advantage. Kettering however, continued to press and after missing a couple of chances they were able to get on to the score sheet thanks to their lock forward Jack Brown. Harry Brightwell added the conversion.
Kettering looked a different side in the second half. With Joe Magill controlling things at the base of the ruck their forwards drove the ball time and time again in to the heart of the ON’s defence. ON’s defended well but it was only a matter of time before Captain Tom Allen and then open side Dominic Hearne crossed the line. In extremely difficult kicking conditions Brightwell slotted both the second half conversions.
After the game Andrew Keir commented; “It took us a bit of time to work out how best to play the conditions but we did and in the second half we were excellent. Joe Magill thoroughly deserved his man of the match award and Harry Brightwell’s goal kicking was supreme. His three kicks from three took the game away from ON’s”.
