Kettering traveled to face the auld enemy in a "friendly" that is always anything but. Corby were a couple of players short so the sides were evened, but the scrums were to be uncontested.
The contest was tough with both sides playing hard in the open field and at the breakdown and the score remained a stalemate for for the first quarter. However, Corby were slightly quicker to the ruck and some great work from their backrow allowed them to move down the field for a score.
Kettering tried to rally, but a couple of penalties moved them back into their own 22, and a passage of continued pressure from Corby yielded another try as the first half came to a close.
The second half opened with Kettering dominating play and spent the first 10 minutes of the half inside Corby territory, however the Corby backs were beginning to dominate the open field and a turnover ball allowed them to move quickly down field for a try.
Injuries were beginning to take their toll on Kettering now and despite a solid midfield defence, were unable to stop the Corby backs attacks on the wings and before the final whistle they had put another two scores on the board.
Phil "The Judge" Aldridge presided over the first game awards:
