Saturday saw Ketterings thirds put in as good an effort as they could, but were outclassed by well organised, well drilled opposition.
The Blues arguably had the better of it up front, but were well beaten in the backs. To their credit, Kettering forced Olneys attack around the outside of the defense, but repeated quick scores and a nasty injury to scrum half and vice captain Damo Adcock in the first half did little for third team confidence.
The young side aquitted itself well in the breakdown and did have a couple of periods in which strong play pushed Olney deep back into their 22, but the breakthrough never came. Further injuries to Connor Stead, Nick Thomatos early in the second half led to Kettering being spread wide and holes starting to appear, and Olney further an up the score.
The afternoon was not without positives however, as the side welcomed back John Collins, Simon Wright and Jez Aldwinckle from prolonged absences, and several Colts continued their step up to senior rugby with strong performances.
