Rampant thirds overpower Daventry

The third team got the result recent performances deserved with a huge win over Daventry. Well organised, simple and effective rugby was complimented by pace and power in attack, strength and resilience in defence.

Daventry started off playing strong, hard-nose rugby, trying to use their superior size to crash through the blues midfield. They were unsuccessful, and great pressure from the breakdown led to a Kettering counter attack down the right. A knock on gave Daventry a scrum, but the pass out of the back was wayward, and David Bannister capitalised on the loose ball to score.

A Jamie Clelland penalty added to the score before the floodgates opened, with continued pressure from Ketterings forwards creating turnovers. Quick play from Damo Adcock and Clelland gave Jordan Butland the chance to jink through the line and take the ball 40 metres for his first score of the day. Soon after, more great forward play put Bannister in for his second, before flanker Ross Lundy also crossed for his first try of the season.

Daventry struggled to get going under massive pressure from Jack Brown in the line out and terrific speed coming out of defence creating pressure in the backfield.

Strong running from Tim Jones, Sean Marshall and Matt Winspear put Butland in for his second just before the half, which sent Kettering into half time 39-3 ahead.

After the break it was more of the same, Lundy crossing for his second early, then breaking from a ruck to run 50 metres for his hattrick.
He wouldn’t be the only one to be buying a pitcher in the bar, Butland claiming his third soon after with another mazy run through the middle before outpacing the full back. Damo Capp added another score before Bannister made it a hattrick of hattricks from close in.

An outstanding all round performance was built on the solid play the thirds have been putting in so far this season.

Apologies if I have got the order of tries etc incorrect, we were so good it was difficult to keep track!
