Thirds Fight for Narrow Win

Kettering’s third team put in a solid performance to come away with a deserved win against Sharnbrook on Saturday.

The young blues side started strongly, but a few errors let Sharnbrook in for the first score midway through the first half. Not to be disheartened, Kettering took the game to their opposition and got right back into the game, man of the match Alex Bayley going over after some excellent forward play.

The second half saw some strong tackling and good play from both sides, highlighted by Terry Grannon hitting Sharnbrooks Steve Judge so hard he forgot he should have been wearing blue. A sloppy penalty gave the opposition to move the ball quickly around the Blues defence with ten minutes left to play, the missed conversion leaving the score 10-5.

Kettering’s young players stepped up to the challenge, again coming out of the blocks fast to try and get something from the game. More strong play from the forwards allowed the backs to start getting some quick ball, and eventually, in the dying moments of the game, Joe Holder picked up a long pass from Connor Featherstone, dummied the pass outside and walked through for the leveller.
Holder converted the try himself with the last kick to give Kettering a 12-10 win.

There were superb performances throughout the inexperienced Blues team, and a battling, grafting spirit saw them over the line.
