The Blues had a tough week, losing 7 of the selected players between Tuesday and Saturday. And many people feared the worse as the side drafted in a number of the players who became available when Leighton Buzzard 2nds pulled out of their fixture leaving the 3rds high and dry.
Those fears, however, were totally unfounded as the Blues took the game to their illustrious opponents and opened the scoring with a Jordan Bell Henshaw, uncoverted try.
Back came Ampthill and they cuaght the Blues napping at a penalty to score a converted try to take the lead. With the slope and still very fired up Kettering kept going and took the lead into half-time with a Yannick Green penalty.
The 2nd half start determined the outcome of the game, as Ampthill upped their pace and scored 3 converted tries in 12 minutes. They then added another converted try before the Blues played their best rugby of the match in the final quarter to score 2 tries, one from the impressive Ben Street, and the other by Green. With both kicks missed and a couple in the first half, the kicking proved costly as Ampthill held on.
A fine, committed performance by a Blues side who showed considerable courage and no lack of skill in this performance against considerably higher ranked opposition.
