Kettering began with much promise and took the lead through a Joe Daniel penalty. The home side then scored a converted try, when a crossfield kick bounced kindly and their ever threatening left wing found his way through some lacklustre tackling to score under the posts.
More Blues pressure led to a second penalty for Daniel, but then the home side struck again with one of their well practiced pick and go routines to score wide on the left. The try went unconverted, and they then kicked a penalty just before half-time to open up a 15-6 lead.
The 2nd half was much the same as the first, with the Blues pressing and eventually Damian Conyard crossed for a try, which Daniel converted to close the gap to 2 points.
Then came the decisive spell, as the Blues created chances, but the home side repelled their efforts, and then turned the ball over to relieve the pressure and then put the visitors under pressure themselves with little time remaining.
As the game entered injury time the Blues made one last effort to win the game. In doing so they threw caution to the wind and a turnover saw the Mkt Rasen backs move the ball wide and score the decisive try.
With the conversion added the visitors were even denied a losing bonus point, much to the delight of the home players and supporters.
