The Blues began strongly and Andy Byrne opened the scoring, in the absence of Joe Daniel, with a well struck penalty after 6 minutes.
The home side continued to dominate proceedings and Joe Newman crossed for his first try of the day after 20 minutes to open up an 8 point lead, although errors were beginning to mount and this was to cause some issues later on.
Newman scored his second try after concerted pressure on the visitors line, on 30 minutes and Byrnes excellent conversion saw the Blues go into half-time with a 15 point lead.
At this point it appeared that a comfortable win for the home side was the only outcome. However, Huntingdon had other ideas, and using their forwards to good effect, and kicking into the corners, their early 2nd half pressure paid off with a converted try.
Then, as the Blues jitters began to show a penalty further reduced the gap to 5 points as the game entered the final quarter.
The defining moment came when the Blues attacked left and a potential try scoring pass was intercepted by the Huntingdon 10. He raced down the touchline but was tackled into touch on the home 22, by Kettering scrum half Tom Bridgeman, to prevent a potential match winning score.
The Blues regained their composure and began to dominate again, although great scramble defence by Huntingdon prevented any further score until the pressure told in the 75th minute and Byrne slotted the decisive penalty to give the Blues the much needed breathing space, and they saw the rest of the game out without any further close calls, despite Huntingdon's continued and concerted efforts.
