Despite the injuries piling up, the Blues travelled to Mansfield in buoyant mood, looking to finish the season with 3 strong performances.
It took less than 2 minutes for a Joe Daniel penalty to give them the lead and then some great handling by the forwards saw Josh Cox charge through from 20 metres out for the opening try, which Daniel duly converted and then added a second penalty to see the Blues 13 points clear with 10 minutes on the clock.
Mansfield hit back with a penalty of their own and then a wicked bounce saw their chasing backs capitalise and they reduced the lead still further with a converted try.
The Blues had the last say in the first half when Daniel came into the line from a quickly taken penalty and burst through for the try, which he again converted to give the Blues a 20-10 half time lead.
Mansfield started the 2nd half in determined mood and scored a try, which was excellently converted and the almost levelled the score when a relatively simple penalty attempt hit an upright and was cleared by the Blues. At this point all was to play for, but then the Blues cut loose, and Joe Newman scorched through for a brace of tries, and Daniel for his second, all of which Daniel converted, along with a third penalty to see the Blues pull clear against an injury hit and demoralised home side.
The game wasn't over, and to their great credit Mansfield hit back with a converted penalty try, but this only spurred the Blues on still further, and replacement Gareth Rees scored under the posts, before skipper Chris Chapman repeated the feat to make Daniels conversions a simple task, to bring his individual tally to 33 points and secure the sides 58-24 win.
The Blues now host Market Rasen and Louth in their final home game of the season this coming weekend.
