Centre, Joe Newman, opened the scoring with a try after 4 minutes, converted by full-back Joe Daniel, but back came Loughborough with 2 penalties and with 15 minutes gone there was a single point between the sides. Then, winger, Damien Conyard scored the first of his 5 tries after a break by scrum-half Tom Bridgeman, which began a 30 point scoring sequence in the next 20 minutes as the Blues took full advantage of poor tackling from their already dispirited opponents.
Firstly, Steve Fraher scored from close range, with Daniel converting, and then Conyard showed strength and determination to power through for his 2nd, unconverted try. Loughborough rallied, briefly, and scored a converted try of their own. Only for Newman to score his 2nd and Conyard his third try, with Daniel converting both, before Josh Block scored a great try working with Bridgeman to scythe through the bemused home defence, and leave the score 45-13 at the break.
The 2nd half belonged to the Blues as they crossed the home line another 6 times. Firstly, 2nd row Jamie Bishop was rewarded for all his hard work with a try, and then winger, James Taylor, crossed the whitewash, as Kettering, despite being a player down following a yellow card for wing forward Jamie Manley, continued to dominate proceedings.
Restored to a full compliment, Manley took full advantage to score 2 tries of his own and Conyard finished off a fine handling move to score his 4th try and then gathered a pin-point Daniel cross-field kick to cross in the corner for his 5th. Daniel converted 3 of the tries to see the Blues record their highest points win for some considerable time.
This week sees Ilkeston visit Waverley Road for the Blues final home game of the season, and with the visitors very much in the promotion hunt, Kettering can expect a different kind of challenge to that experienced in the previous 2 weeks.
Once again, there could have been a number of recipients of the RAJ Man of the Match, as players stepped up another level from the week before. In the end, the adjudicators decided they could not split 2 of them so decided on a joint award.
