Kettering's cause wasn't helped with another casualty in the backs, meaning that 7, potential 1st team backs were now on the sidelines. The latest withdrawal was centre Matt Nield who was taken ill overnight, which meant a last minute call up to veteran Paul Baird, who was expecting to play on the adjacent pitch for the Vets side.
Paviors started strongest and took the lead with a converted try, only for Kettering to hit back with a crossfield kick from Joe Daniel which bounced awkwardly and winger Jack Walther pounced on the loose ball to feed inside to James Taylor who scampered over the line. Daniel missed the conversion, but then kicked a penalty to give the Blues an 8-7 lead, only for Paviors to re-take the lead on the half hour with a penalty of their own. The score remained at 10-7 at half-time.
Playing with the conditions Paviors dominated early proceedings in the 2nd half, and slack defence at a lineout led to them scoring a converted try, and then 2 long range penalties extended their lead. The final nial in the coffin came when 2 Blues defenders became involved with an over aggresive Paviors forward instead of marking their opposition and the Paviors scrum-half took full advantage to snipe down the blind-side and score the home sides 3rd try, which was again excellently converted by the Paviors fly-half, whose kicking throughout had been the difference between the sides.
The Blues, to their credit didn't give up and they completely dominated the last 10 minutes and were finally rewarded when a break from winger Damien Conyard was fed to Ian Renard who scored from 20 metres out. Daniel converted to give a final scoreline of Paviors 30-15 Kettering (in contradiction to the incorrect score on the league results page).
