Matlock are one of the form teams in this league at the moment, and Ketterings clear lack of preparation for this game was badly exposed in the first quarter as the visitors took full advantage to open up a 18 point lead, which could have been worse had the referee somehow not awarded a penalty try to Malock, when blatant late tackle prevented a certain try. The only conceivable reason could have been the all too often over verciferous and intimidating behaviour of one or two of an otherwise talented side.
After the first quarter the Blues came back into the game and dominated much of the next 40 minutes, but solid defence and poor decision making prevented Kettering from closing the gap, other than a well worked try for Luca Rodger, which was converted by Joe Daniel. Then, in the final 15 minutes, Matlock made sure the game was well and truly won with 2 further tries of their own, with the latter being a fine solo effort by their ever dangerous and extremely talented left wing.
Kettering need to learn fast from this experience as they enter a spell of 3 further games against the top sides in the league.
