With the weather conditions playing a big part in most sporting fixtures at the weekend, and with the rain setting in from mid-day, it was always going to be difficult for either side to play any real flowing rugby. However the Blues did manage to string together enough continuity to prove too strong for the struggling visitors, and at the same time prevent Loughborough from creating any realk scoring opportunities other than a solitary first half penalty conversion.
By the time the visitors scored thier points, Keiran Cox had already been deined by a last ditch tackle in the right corner, and then Joe Daniel had proven too quick for the covering defence and burst through the line to cross for the opening Blues try, which he converted himself.
A second try, this time from Matt Nield, stretched the Blues lead at half-time, and then as conditions worsened 2 further scores, one from Cox and the final, bonus point securing 4th try from the impressive Nield right at the death, sealed an emphatic win for the home side, which, had they taken the opportunities created, should have been considerably more so!
Both sides still have much work to do to retain their place in this division. Loughborough, for their part are re-building after losing a significant number of players in the close season, something which the Blues know only too well, themselves!
