Paviors kicked off on another beautiful late summer’s afternoon, perfect for a running game but after twenty of play it was still scoreless, this though soon changed as skipper George Newman opened the scoring with a try which was quickly followed by another this time scored by Dan Martin.
If then anybody thought the Blues were going to get away Paviors hit back before half time with a converted try of their own, which gave the Blues a slender 10 – 7 half time lead.
Five minutes into the second half however Paviors took the lead with their second converted try (10 – 14) which also coincided with a yellow card for Damian Conyard, and Paviors extended their lead with a penalty (10 – 17) which then saw Jordan Butlin join Conyard in the sin bin.
Reduced to thirteen the Blues hit back with a Joe Daniel penalty of their own which was immediately cancelled out by a further Paviors penalty (13 – 20). Restored to fifteen men the Blues went in search of an equalising score which came when Butlin weaved his way through the visitor’s defence to score near the posts giving Daniel an easy conversion to level the scores.
With the clock ticking down and the Blues putting their visitors under pressure the Blues were awarded a penalty and Joe Daniel stepped up and made no mistake to give the Blues a winning lead.
This game was as close as the scoreboard suggests but once again the Blues defence were up to all Paviors could throw at them and two wins out of their opening three games is a great start in Midlands Premier.
