Kettering began strongly and dominated the early stages, and it wasn't long before Steve Fraher barged over for an uncoverted try, following a flowing backs move, to give the Blues a 5 point lead. Shortly afterwards Jordan Butlin was prevented from extending the lead, when a last ditch tackle saw the winger put a foot into touch as he was about to score.
Despite this, the home side were dominating territorially, but West Bridgford continually threatened to break free and they did so in spectacular fashion as another Blues attack broke down and the visitors counterattacked from deep to score a converted try under the posts. 5-7.
Back came Kettering and further pressure led to a Joe Daniel penalty to see the Blues regarin the lead, 8-7.
Then West Bridgford replied with a penalty of their own as the lead changed hands again, 8-10.
More concerted pressure from Kettering eventually saw Alex Bayley crash over for a try converted by Daniel and then, on the stroke of half-time, Fraher bagged his second wide out on the right, to see the Blues lead 20-10 at the break.
If anyone thought the Blues would now pull away, they were much mistaken, as West Bridgford broke from deep again to score an uncoverted try and close the gap to 5 points.
Great hands then saw Jordan Butlin cross the whitewash wide out on the right for an unconverted score, but almost immediately from the re-start the visitors hit back with a converted try and lead was now only 3 points, 25-22.
Then, following another period of sustained pressure on the visitors line, the ball was moved wide for Daniel to score the try, which he failed to convert, again from wide out. 30-22.
Once again, almost immediately from the kick-off, West Bridgford scored and the game entered the latter stages with the score 30-27.
Shane Ling then scored the Blues final try, after a powerful catch and drive. Daniel converted to open up a 10 point gap. 37-27.
The visitors were not finished, and their enterprise paid off when some shoddy defence allowed the visiting backs to break through and their winger crossed for his 3rd try of the day for the final score of the game.
Final score: Kettering 37- 32 West Bridgford
