This was a pretty one sided affair as a normally combative Old Scouts side succumbed to defeat with few players seemingly up for the game. This was evident from the very first minutes, when George Newman opened the Blues account after a scintilating handling move involving half the Blues side. Joe Daniel who had an indifferent week with the boot the week before, was just the opposite this week, converting 8 of the home sides 9 tries, starting with this one. 7-0 after 2 minutes.
To their credit, Scouts scramble defence kept them in the game for the next 15 minutes, as wave after wave of Blues attacks were either repelled, or failed through poor decision making or execution. Alex Bayley righted this, when in support of a break from fly-half, Bruce Keir, he received an inside pass and dived over the line, under the posts, for a try converted by Daniel. 18 mins gone, 14-0.
The home side continued to dominate proceedings and on 25 minutes Aaron Kelman took advantage of a fortuous bounce to score under the posts. Daniel adding the extra's. 21-0.
Then , late in the half, further concerted pressure eventually saw Steve Fraher driving for the line. To everyone's amazement and pleasure, the hooker made the deftest of out of the back offloads to Ollie Furniss for the winger to cross unopposed. 28-0 Half-time
It took 5 minutes of the second half for the Blues to add the their score, when a catch and drive from a lineout saw Kelman peel off and crash over from 5-metres out. daniel again added the extra's from wide out. 35-0.
As the game entered its final quarter, replacement Josh Plowright, playing his first game for 16 months, jinked through to score under the posts, with Daniel converting, 42-0, quickly followed by Furniss' second score of the game after a great crossfiled kick by Daniel was expertly fielded by Monty Toseland, and then offloaded to the winger for him to score. Daniel showed he was human after all by missing the albeit difficult conversion. 47-0 with 17 minutes to go.
Scouts, by now, were a well beaten side, and Newman collected his second on 70 minutes after a push-over by the dominant Blues pack. Daniels' extras made it 54-0. Then on the final whistle, Plowright scored his second try, again dancing through the Scouts defence and scoring under the posts to give Daniel the easiest of conversions and leave the final score:
