The Kettering full back opened the scoring with a penalty in the 8th minute, as the visitors took the game to their Leicestershire hosts, despite being made to play on the smallest pitch the home side could find. He then added to that total with a try, which he also converted to give the Blues a 10-0 lead after a quarter of an hour.
Steve Fraher was the next to score on 20 minutes, but was injured in the process, leading to Shane Ling make an earleir thatn expected appearance. Daniel was, this time, unsuccessful with his conversion attempt. 0-15.
The next 15 minutes were a little scrappy, and the hosts opened their account with a penalty after 35 minutes. 3-15
However, it was Kettering who had the last say of the half, when after a number of collapsed scrums during the half, and then 2 successive collapses close to the Melton line, the referee awarded a penalty try to the Blues. Half-time 3-22.
Any thoughts that Melton would make a comeback in the second half were quickly quashed when Daniel chased a high kick, won the contest, fed the ball to Aaron Kelman and then received the return pass to score an unconverted try. 3-27.
This was followed by a fine break by Ed Drake Lee, who was stopped short of the line, but when the ball was quickly recycled to Bruce Keir the fly-half offloaded to the supporting Kelman, who gained the reward for his work by scoring a try, this time converted by Daniel. 3-34.
Shortly after this, Daniel scored his third try of the day, when he intercepted a pass and ran 70 metres to score under the posts to make his own conversion a simple one. 3-41.
It appeared that the floodgates had well and truly opened when on 57 minutes, Henry Styles got the touchdown to a clever Josh Luthayi grubber kick to take the Blues into a 3-46 lead, with the conversion drifting wide.
However, Melton Mowbray weren't finished and they laid seige to the Kettering line for well over 5 minutes. Eventually their persistence paid off and they scored a converted try, which was quickly followed by a further 3 point penalty, to leave the score 13-46 going into the final 10 minutes.
This seemed to galvanise the Blues and they dominated the final part of the game. Firstly, Kelman scored his second try of the game, which Daniel converted, 13-53. And then Daniel showed fine running skills to cross in the left corner for his fourth try of the day. Keir took over the kicking at this point, but his effort from the widest of angles was unsuccessful. 13-58.
However, he made no mistake with a much simpler effort in the final minute as Dan Fay sold an outrageous dummy to the Melton full-back and scored close to the posts.
Final Score: Melton Mowbray 13 - 65 Kettering
