Despite the extremely difficult conditions, Kettering still managed to play enough fluent rugby to come away from Wellingborough with a comfortable 20-0 win.

Conditions were bad enough at the start of the game, and deteriorated as time progressed to leave players almost indistinguishable at the end of play, and it was a credit to both sides that they strived to play rugby to the very final whistle.
The Blues dominated most of the first period and Wellingborough only threatened once, when a hack through caught out the Blues defence and it took some fine cover work from Matt Neild to prevent the score.
For the rest of the first period. the Blues had their hosts on the rack, but their only score in the first 35 minutes was a Joe Daniel penalty, until the ball was spread wide and a great offload from Daniel saw Damo Conyard dive over in th right corner, to give the Blues an 8-0 lead.
Then, with half-time approaching, Joe Newman broke through and raced in from 40-metres to score a try which Daniel converted to give the visitors a 15 point cushion at the break.
Kettering started the 2nd half as they finished the first, and Daniel crossed out wide on the right after 5 minutes for the Blues third try of the day to open up a 20 point lead. At this point it seemed the Blues might break clear, but to their credit, and with conditions worsening, Wellingborough fought back up the hill.
The Blues then lost Newman and Conyard in the space of a couple of minutes and the re-shuffle clearly led to a loss of cohesion and impetus, and as the players began to diasappear in the gloom and mud, the game petered out. Kettering did make a concerted effort in the last few minutes to get the bonus point 4th try, but a handling error led to a turnover and Wellingborough eventually decided that they would settle for the 20-0 score and kicked the ball dead.

Final score Wellingborough 0-20 Kettering
