Blues enjoy the wallow in the mud

Kettering put the disappointments of the previous two games behind them with a comprehensive 41-14 win at a very soggy Bugbrooke.

With all games in the region affected by the rain and snow, the Blues knew what to expect and weren't disappointed, as conditions posed problems for both sides throughout the game.
Despite this, both teams did try to play some rugby, and it was the visitors who dominated proceedings for much of the game, which was confirmed by the 6 tries to 2 outcome.
Kettering started well, although the home side could have taken the lead with a penalty, which was wide of the target, before George Newman scored the first of his 3 tries from a close range scrummage, which Bruce Keir converted.
The home side struck back with a clever kick and chase, and scored a converted try to level things up, before Keir kicked a penalty to open up a 3 point lead for the Blues, which was quickly followed by a Steve Fraher try and conversion to stretch the lead to 7-17 at the break.
Again, the Blues started the second period well and Dan Martin plunged over for an unconverted try 3 mins into the half.
Bugbrooke fought their way downfield and scored from a 5-metre lineout, with the conversion closing the gap to 14-22. They almost scored again when a fly-hack held up in the water and their winger almost benefited. This, however, was their final visit into the Blues 22, and once Newman crossed for his second, and Keir added the extra's the home sides resistance disappeared. 14-29.
Newman then scored his third try of the day, which Keir again converted, before Chester Hilson was on the end of some football skills from Keir, which would have had many a scout closing their cheque books. Hilson, however, somehow managed to work out where the ball would finish, unlike Keir, and he dotted down for the final try of the game, to leave the final score 14-41.
